Round the Island Race

Our cameras were out on Ventnor seafront to film the spectacle of hundreds of yachts taking part in the Round the Island Race.

Organised by the Island Sailing club with commercial sponsorship this race is the largest of its kind in the world.

The first race was in 1931 and it has gone from strength to strength ever since. This year 1779 entrants started from Cowes early on a Saturday in June sailing westwards towards The Needles. By midday the main fleet had begun to make it round the south of the Island and had started to stream past Ventnor sea front. It was the from the esplanade and haven that we shot these stunning pictures.
